Don’t only judge your situation by the circumstances

The following night the Lord stood near Paul and said, ‘Take courage! As you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome." The next morning some Jews formed a conspiracy and bound themselves with an oath not to eat or drink until they had killed Paul. Acts 23:11-12

Based on the circumstances alone, Paul’s situation was a perilous one. Crowds had gathered round him and had been baying for his blood. The local law enforcement were so concerned that they took Paul into custody for his own protection. In the midst of this situation God appears to him and says ‘Take courage, you will also testify in Rome!’ No doubt Paul really needed courage at that moment. The very next day unbeknown to Paul although he would later discover it. A group took an oath not to eat or drink until they had killed Paul. If the Lord had not spoken to him the night before I wonder how he might have reacted? God you’ve said I will testify in Rome, humanly speaking that is impossible right now, but I will do as you say and take courage. How many of us find ourselves in impossible situations humanly speaking? Well if that’s you take courage and don’t judge too much by your circumstances.

Venue update

eacon is currently going through some exciting times. We have been served notice on our office, stay and play group and also our current Sunday venue will be unsuitable for us without any external space. There are possibilities, but nothing has been sorted out yet. Please pray for us to have wisdom as a church and favour with those who might be able to help us.

Last week

e had a really productive meeting of the foodbank trustees, things continue to go well in that ministry. Also CAP continues to grow we are arranging to do our first money courses in the community in August. The plans for Newday are coming together, Pauline and I met with Scott and Katy Lingard who lead City Church Lancaster and are hosting the seminar in the prayer space this year. Last year Katy was one of the speakers on that particular track.

Hylton update

Last Monday Pauline and I travelled up to Lancaster for Yasmin’s graduation ceremony on Tuesday. It was a proud and memorable occasion for us to see her collect her Masters in Maths certificate. Rhianna has been offered a job in Sports Direct in Cambridge, she then subsequently got interviews in at least two other places but I think she likes the idea of the sports shop! Daisy was away for a few days on a Biology trip. We were all back together on Wednesday and had a takeaway meal and played games to celebrate Yasmin’s graduation. Whilst we were up north we visited Blackpool where Yasmin is planning to go church planting.

1st to 7th Augus: Newday! We are still looking for help, please speak to Jen if you think you might be able to do this.

4th September: Summer party @ the Hylton’s inc BBQ, live music and bouncy castle.
