Beacon Internship

Beacon is a growing, diverse church based in Brixton, gathering people from all groups of society and from all over South London. We have an exciting opportunity for an intern to be part of growing Beacon’s outreach work in the local community for one year from September 2019- July 2020, including the Newday festival. The internship is unpaid, but expenses are covered and hours may be flexibly arranged around other work commitments; support with accommodation is also possible.

ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP

Serving the Church

Beacon interns serve the church in various areas. This would include:

  • Serving at church two Sundays per month. This may be for instance be in kids, creche, welcome, youth, worship, PA or set-up as needed

  • Providing admin support to the office

Christians Against Poverty (CAP)

Beacon runs the largest CAP debt centre in Lambeth. With the support of the Debt Centre Manager, you would get involved in:

  • Accompanying the Debt Centre Manager on home visits in the local community

  • Praying with CAP clients

  • Calling creditors

  • Coordinating Christmas hampers

  • Providing support to the office team, including website and social media comms and admin

Foodbank

Beacon has been running the Brixton Foodbank since 2012, the busiest in London. Being part of the Foodbank team is an excellent opportunity to serve the local community. This would include:

  • Putting together food parcels

  • Taking guest orders

  • Listening and talking with guests

Orchards

Orchards is charity that provides safe housing, counselling and support to women who have experienced sexual exploitation. Depending on skills and experience, you may support the work of this growing charity in the following ways:

  • Helping to run a launch event

  • Updating social media

  • Supporting with fundraising

During the year, you may also have the opportunity to participate in residential training programmes.`

ABOUT YOU

  • As for many of these ministry areas you would be working with vulnerable people, you would need to have the maturity to work sensitively and be willing to undergo a DBS check

  • You would need to be willing to learn and able to work independently some of the time
